N.E.C. STYLE: NYC FIRST EVER MENSWEAR FASHION WEEK SS16 WRAP UP

NYC FIRST EVER MENSWEAR FASHION WEEK SS16 WRAP UP

"American menswear has never been stronger or more creative. ...(This is) an opportunity to demonstrate the collective talent of an important segment of our industry."- Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA,

The fashion community now has something to look forward to between the months of February and September.  CFDA presented the first ever fashion week for Menswear this week in New York City.   This 4 day event was held at the Skylight Clarkson Sq and held some of the best fashion designers in menswear.

The line up of designers was a mix of  retail , well known fashion houses and up and coming designers.   To name drop, big labels such as Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Calvin Klein were rubbing elbows with Michael Bastian, Public School and Carlos Campos.

THOM BROWNE

Overall, designers came from different angles.  Browne was minimal in color and stayed with shades of grey.  Bastian was inspired by Bel Air LA and kept it cool and fresh. Hilfiger colection was colorful, tailored and nautical, while Nautica focused on bathing suits and opened rain jackets with perfectly chiseled bodies underneath.
Some designers created a story through a presentation.  Browne with his reflective/mirror room or Public School with their  "NYPD suspect" Line up (my take of course).  Others stuck to a traditional fashion runway show letting the models sell the goods.  I found  most menswear kept to presentations, which is common in menswear.  Men like to see where they would wear the clothing designers are trying to sell.

My love for menswear is never ending and having 4 days dedicated solely to this section of fashion was very refreshing.  It was also refreshing to have all the research I would have to do in September rolled into one event.  CDFA has announce that this is a bi yearly event....cant wait to see what up for Fall 2016!!!
(Side Joke: I must be the only women who know  the lineup for Thom Browne better then DVF? just saying...)
